Yesterday it was finally time to put down the fabric swatches, measuring tape, pencils and paper. It was photoshoot time! Once again, Tala Bee was able to work with the team at Style Army. With the winning combination of Lauri Levenfeld’s epic photography and Mary Kinney’s insane styling skills, the results are undoubtedly going to be works of art.

Photoshoots are definitely a fun part of the business. Exhausting at times, but it is definitely fun to get lost with over a dozen people whizzing around, models, hair, make-up, clothes and accessories. The task of getting the collection together and making sure each piece is finalized and ready to shoot is done. Let the fun begin!
The night before the shoot, making sure everything is ready to go.
There are so many reasons why I love photoshoots and seeing the final product on live models. From a technical standpoint, it is gratifying to see all the hard work in getting all the details and fit right. When the clothes are styled by Mary, you also find new ways that your clothes can be worn or paired together. It’s almost like shopping with your girlfriend, getting an outsider’s perspective opens your eyes to new styles and looks. Most importantly, children’s clothing just comes to life when they are actually being worn by kids! At the end of the shoot, when they want to take home the clothes and keep them, you know your job as a designer has been fulfilled.
Kaiya and Angilee were the stars of the show!
We will be updating the blog and website with so many more photos. There is so much to share with everyone and we cannot wait to show you the new collection.
One of the great things about fashion design is that you start getting inspired and design within the season you are designing for. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. It has always been a nostalgic time, signifying the start of a new school year, the excitement of the upcoming holiday season or even just a much needed change in weather. One of the questions that I always get is, “What inspires your designs?” There are so many answers to this question, but there is always one inspiration that can get me going…fabric! Sometimes I feel like a hoarder with the amount of fabric I collect. It’s addictive. Sometimes it is just one print that can inspire the entire collection. It is an exciting experience watching the collection naturally form on its own. Here’s a glimpse of what I use to get the creative juices flowing.
It’s great to be back, to the show and our customers! With our most recent debut at ENK Children’s Club, we had a great response to the new collections. The response was overwhelming and positive. They loved the look of the new collection, from the fresh silhouettes to the prints, weight, and hand of the new fabrics. We are happy that we went with these new fabrics and were able to introduce them in our Resort 2012 collection.
We sent the fabulous Eileen Corrigan in our stead to represent Tala Bee out in New York. She did a great job and are glad to have her on our team. Here is a picture of our booth, it was small, but eye-catching! Eileen is a multi-talented force as she is also a merchandiser for a new jewelry line, Chloe and Isabel.
The timing of the show was impeccable. As soon as we sent Eileen on her way to New York, baby number two decided he also wanted to make his debut into this world… so we also welcomed Owen into this world on August 4th, 2012!
I’m so excited to introduce you to a new Tala Bee! We’re launching a new logo, new website and new designs in time for Resort 2012 and Spring/Summer 2013. This has been a fun and expedient process, since we basically started in May.
You may be wondering, why bother with a re-brand. I’ve had some major life changes lately – I got married last October, and I’m expecting baby number two any day now! With all that, I felt an urge to bring Tala Bee a fresh, new, and modern perspective. With the creative juices flowing (or pregnancy hormones), I felt Tala Bee needed to mature and expand, so we got the ball rolling!
This was definitely a team effort, especially given the short time frame. We relied on the major talents of many other people and I think the results have been extraordinary. Josh Chen from Chen Design Associates was in charge of the logo and brand identity. The fabulous women of Style Army, Lauri Levenfeld, Heidi Yarger, and Mary Gonsalves Kinney led the way with the photography, website design, and styling.
As for the new collections, be prepared to see some new colors and silhouettes for Resort 2012. We went a little brighter and more colorful, providing a welcome escape from the winter months. The Spring/Summer 2013 collection does not alienate the core Tala Bee customer. We have the same smart, modern designs with the unexpected details that make it special.
