About Tala >
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tala Banatao knew that the cultural mix of the region and her own rich Filipino heritage were helping shape her aesthetic and style. What she didn’t know was how it would lead to her finding ways to make clothing both girls and their parents would love.
A Berkeley graduate, she dutifully started law school with a very different path planned. After a year, and with years of friends’ styling requests fresh in her mind, she realized a serious career could come out her love of fashion. Off she headed to FIDM, where she completed an advanced degree. While there, she immersed herself in all facets of the apparel industry, from retail to corporate, merchandising to design. By designing and owning her own line, Tala found the balance between her business-minded side and her creative side.
After the birth of her son Lucas, the pieces that had been there all along fell into place. Lucas served as a cuddly inspiration to her big idea: the Tala Bee Kids line. Knowing she could incorporate her love of beautiful textiles and simple silhouettes with the needs of children for fun clothes that are easy to wear & the needs of parents for cute clothes that last. Her smart designs include well-made clothing and subtle detailing with an eye toward creating a wearable and playable outfit.
